I actually left the house today. Sat in a local breakfast diner and had a meal. Scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, hashbrowns and toast. I fucking love a good breakfast. I think that is my new Friday morning routine. I would do it daily but that would cost me a lot of money every week. But at least I am trying to leave the house once in a while. I had to. Just to breathe and feel normal. Something difficult right now for many of us.
In the last few days, I’ve heard from a lot of friends. We’re all checking on each other. Coming up with ways to cope. I left twitter for good and it seems like I am not alone. I’m on bluesky, which is a twitter alternative, untouched by the hateful arseholes on the old platform. I’ve been curating a new list of followers and the followed that will keep me thinking about positive things. Things I love. Like art, music, comics, Star Trek and jokes. I’ve made some nice new friends. You can add me too if you like: https://bsky.app/profile/phymns.bsky.social and the best thing about there… no trending topics! You can’t get sucked into the vortex again.
One additional thing that has been a great help is AVOIDING THE NEWS. If I have to go to news for something (like to check for sports stuff) I avoid the headlines. If I see his pic (you know who) I don’t even look at it. Scan past it. Today at the diner, I normally would read the news like a morning paper. But today, I brought my journal. I brought my ipad and did some inks. I brought a book. “The Last Dangerous Visions.” Harlan Ellison in my head. I think I will get a lot of reading done in the next four years if I keep up these new habits.
The new “normal.”
The thing I keep thinking about is that there will be a lot of GREAT ART that will come of this. Art always is a reaction to the world around the maker of it. Doesn’t matter the form. A painting, comic, song, afghan… anything. Anything can be your art and craft. So find yours and make it so. Give focus to the good things. The creative things. The positive things. Treat your brain like its a nightclub. Be the bouncer. Don’t let assholes into your party. But I just imagine the great art that is to come. I mean, The W Bush era gave us Green Day’s AMERICAN IDIOT album! World War II helped give birth to my favorite album, Pink Floyd’s THE WALL. I can’t wait to see what is being conjured up right now. Not that I enjoy who will have to suffer to make the good things happen. But I am sure to think that humanity will survive this. We got a pretty good track record of getting out of the darkness… eventually. This is just our time to remind us of how bad we truly can be if we don’t learn to take care of each other.
Anyway, its the weekend. I plan to get together with friends and have some drinks and much needed laughs. It’s going to be okay. And if you aren’t okay, reach out to me and I can talk to you. Anytime. Email: phymns@yahoo.com or comment below. — You’re not alone. We’ll beat this thing. Make it our bitch. Show em who truly is in charge around here. Tell em to sniff your balls cause you ain’t budging. Love will prevail. It always does.
I’m here for you. So are many others. Never doubt that.
Much love, T
(Thanks Lemmy. Miss you.)
