Hello friends. I’m back. It has been a nice, quiet (and much needed) vacation from it all. Wanna know what I did and what I choose to do as “relaxation?” Check it:
Friday: Housework. Whew! That’s exciting! I’m still putting stuff away since I moved the house around a bit. One good thing is that my new office chair arrived (sitting in it now, in fact!) Assembly was quick and here she is:
I say thing and I mean it: THIS IS THE BEST CHAIR IVE EVER SAT IN! Literally. Its soft and tight in all the right places. A pumpable lumbar for me too! I will definitely get another one when I can just to have around the house. I’m sure my 17 year old would like a new chair for his room.
I finished housework and picked up my friend Jamie and she treated me to a steak dinner! We got back to the house and partied, watching music videos all night until I passed out. I felt bad on pooping out on her, but I am getting older. Can’t party hearty like I used to! So I left her to the not so comfy couch and I hit the bed.
Saturday: I got up, made us breakfast and took her home. I got back to the house and literally drew. All day. ALL DAY. Pencils, inks, colors. Nap. Pencils, inks, colors until 1am. It was awesome!
Sunday was basically a repeat of Saturday, with the added bonus of doing some word balloons on newer STARSLAM pages and organizing files. Man, if only that could be my life full time! That is exactly what I would do. Comics. Art. Writing. Drawing. Here’s just a peek of some of the stuff I did. To see more you gotta go to my Patreon! http://www.patreon.com/adamtalley
Monday I had pre-paid for a hotel room in Grand Rapids. I tried to pull out of it, but it was non-refundable! (I hate when I do that to myself! But I have been trying to force myself to get out of the house and do more things. Like an idiot! UGH) So I headed there around 10am. I hit a couple music stores and sold some stuff off for some extra scratch money. I did get one Ani Difranco CD though. And then to a used bookstore where I scored some stuff. I’ve been on a Stephen King kick lately, wanting to collect as many of his Hardcovers as I can. They are all going on the TO READ pile with everything else. Plus I got a used Sci Fi novel I’ve been looking for:
This brings my Stephen King shelf to look like this now:
While downtown I had planned to hit “Stellas,” a nice burger place with GREAT food, arcade games and Lost in Space/Star Trek always playing on the TV. Talk about my home away from home! Unfortunately the hours online didn’t match the ones on the door, so it was closed. UGH. So I just hit a steakhouse for another yummy steak dinner and then checked into the hotel. I sprung for a jacuzzi room, which was pretty great!
I set up shop and made this a mini “Writer’s retreat” hotel stay. I started work on a short story horror novel. I got a little ways into the first story, which flowed out really nicely. I’ve had this story in my head for years and not much was detailed out. I just started and the story told me who the people were and what they were like and doing.
The taste of a nice red wine helped me along.
I took a nice long relaxing dip and suddenly didn’t feel so guilty for getting the room. All the world’s bullshit and my personal troubles just melted away in the hot jets. It was pure heaven.
I couldn’t sleep after that so I did some coloring on new STARSLAM pages. (See? Even on literal vacation, the work never stops! Cause I love doing it so much!) Got home on Tuesday pretty early after eating the shitty hotel breakfast. I got some more stuff done around the house. Organizing, tossing shit. Hanging pictures back up in new places after the bedroom/office move around. I scored my favorite pizza (from Harry’s Place on Vanderlein in Lansing. Check it out. It yummy.) and then passed out around 6pm watching Star Trek TNG. I woke back up at 7pm but was still kinda groggy so I hit the pillow again. Then I woke up at 2am! My sleep is all jacked up. So I figured I would write to ya’ll and then pass back out if I can.
All in all, it was a nice relaxing time. I did everything I wanted and more. Its been a few years since I have done any sort of vacation where I went away anywhere. And this wasn’t much of a getaway, but enough for me. Money is kinda tight headed into the holiday season, so I have been trying to spend very little. Although I do have a concert this coming Saturday. But that is a later blog to come.
By the way, all week I have still been dealing with Lily and her weird belly rash. It gets better and then somehow she gets at it and licks it back to being red and puffy. Total spent on it now is $522. I am about to just give up. I’ve tried everything I could do. Some I read online is that it can go away on its own, so I am hoping that is the case. I’d love for her to stop peeing everywhere and being scared of the other two cats. I WANT MY HOUSE BACK!!! (she does look cute in her onezee though!)
Belle Belle’s is over it too… But she was happy to have me home and on the bed drawing so much!
Okay, its saying I am out of room on this, so I better end it. Thanks for reading! Back to the grind today. UGH —-T
That chair looks comfy AF.
Also, Harry's pizza does look like it's worth checking out!
