Hey friends. Trying to keep my nose out of the news. Some days are more successful than others. So I decided this last week to do some rearranging in the house. I got rid of my little mini fridge in the nerd lair and moved some Trek stuff around…
In the space where the fridge was, I got a new bookcase and moved some books around too. I quite like it. I started to get piles of books laying around!
Moved some stuff around in the Office/art area too.
I was finally happy to get little sections for everything. Model kits, fantasy books, sci fi books, horror… and then I assembled a little Bettie Page collection spot. All my mags, books, dvds, etc featuring her!
By my desk I got my signed print from Mark Kistler, the man who inspired this 6 year old boy named ADAM on how to draw. That led to a whole lifetime of making art and inspiring others. Got him a nice job and a college degree in art too. All because of this man… on PBS… paid for by the Corporation of Public Broadcasting…. which was now recently defunded by our “government.” So now there will be a generation of kids who will not get the spark of additional education that I did and it shaped my life. Goddammit… but that is a whole other blog to write.
At sixteen years old, this ADAM kid started to draw comics. Here’s some pages of his early work on what would become PLEASANT LIFE. And some newspaper articles featuring him and his work as he went to college.
Cut to today… I think the kid did pretty good!
Trying to make sense of all of what is going on in the world. But mostly I cannot. I don’t get it. I hope we can still turn the ship around. Meanwhile, my education continues. Just scored these two Harlan Ellison books I didn’t have and I look forward to reading them.
Do kids even read books nowadays? Probably not. Wikipedia their book report. But dumber citizens means we can be controlled easier. Yeah I’m angry about what is going on. Not much I can do other than stay educated myself and hope we can fix things. Always hoping.
Thanks for reading. New Pleasant Life tomorrow!

I have some good news for you. As a high school teacher and a father of a 12 y.o. I can tell you that kids DO read. Not all of them, of course, but those who do, DO. They even prefer real books to digital! Again, I wish more read but those who do, well…they get it.
